Kalmar FF booked a place in next season's UEFA Cup qualifying rounds as they beat Allsvenskan leaders IFK Göteborg 3-0 to lift the Swedish Cup.

Long wait
At their own Fredriksskans ground, Kalmar claimed the trophy 20 years after their last triumph and were sent on their way 22 minutes in as in-form Brazilian César Santin calmly slotted in. That advantage appeared precarious early in the second period, with Jonas Wallerstedt chipping just over for Göteborg, but having survived that scare Kalmar doubled the lead on 65 minutes through Patrik Ingelsten and two minutes from time Santin got his second from the penalty spot.

Bergstrand delight
"We played a good, tactical game and proved too much for Göteborg to handle tonight. I know they had a derby on Monday [against GAIS Göteborg], but even if they hadn't played for a month, would they have beaten us?" said Kalmar coach Nanne Bergstrand, whose side claimed their first Swedish Cup since beating GAIS in the 1986/87 final. Meanwhile his opposite number, Göteborg coach Stefan Rehn, admitted his side were second best, saying: "We looked off the pace but full credit to Kalmar; they played well, took their chances and made it hard for us."
