Article body
Switzerland registered their first points of their 2005 UEFA European Women's Championship qualifying campaign by defeating Serbia and Montenegro 1-0 at the Grien stadium.
Previous defeats
The two teams were comprehensively beaten in their opening matches, Switzerland 6-0 by Sweden and the Serbians 8-0 by Italy, so victory today was imperative if confidence was to be restored. In the end the Swiss triumphed, Manuela Zurcher scoring the only goal of the game in the 44th minute.
Third place
The win leaves Switzerland in third place, behind Italy on goal difference and three points in arrears of Sweden, who have won both their matches. The Swiss are in Finland for their next match on 1 June, while Serbia and Montenegro face the same opposition at home on 27 September.
