Nikolić and Müller take scorer honours

Milena Nikolić of ŽFK Spartak ends the 2013/14 UEFA Women's Champions League as overall top scorer on 11 goals, one ahead of Martina Müller's knock-out best of ten.

Going into tonight's final, Tyresö FF's Christen Press had the highest tally of the knockout phase with nine, and trailed Nikolić's overall total by two with VfL Wolfsburg's Müller one further adrift. Press failed to score but Müller struck two – including the winner – in Wolfsburg's 4-3 success to be the only player to double figures in the competition proper.

Bosnia and Herzegovina forward Nikolić, making her competition debut aged 21, managed ten in the qualifying round, with hat-tricks in all three of Spartak's games, adding one more in the Serbian club's 5-3 aggregate round of 32 loss to FC Rossiyanka. Nikolić has since won another title with Spartak to book a European return.

Among the Wolfsburg side in Lisbon was unused substitute Conny Pohlers, who will retire this summer with a record tally of 48 competition goals from 45 appearances, including six this season. She won the competition with 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in 2005, 1. FFC Frankfurt three years later and Wolfsburg (last season).  Former Potsdam and Germany team-mate Anja Mittag followed her in topping 40 with two Malmö strikes before their last-16 elimination by Wolfsburg this season.

Nina Burger, by managing six goals in SV Neulengbach's run to the quarter-finals, took her career tally to 39, equalling the record for a single club long held by Hanna Ljungberg of Umeå IK. Burger has now departed Neulengbach for Houston Dash in the United States.
