Sweden centre-back Nilla Fischer, recipient of the adidas Silver Boot at UEFA Women's EURO 2013, will move to European champions VfL Wolfsburg on a free transfer on 1 January 2014.

Until that point, the 28-year-old, scorer of three goals in the Blågult's run to the Women's EURO semi-finals on home soil, will continue to play for Linköpings FC, whom she joined from FC Malmö in 2012. "I feel like now is the right time," said Fischer, capped 107 times. "Wolfsburg are one of the best teams."

Wolfsburg coach Ralf Kellermann said: "We are happy to have signed such an experienced defender. Nilla is a top player and she showed that throughout the European Championship."

The Lower Saxony club, winners of the UEFA Women's Champions League, German Cup and Frauen Bundesliga last term, begin the defence of their European title in the round of 32.
