Germany goalkeeper Nadine Angerer will miss not only this week's qualifiers against Spain and Switzerland but also the rest of 1. FFC Frankfurt's season after suffering a setback in her recovery from a knee injury.
The 33-year-old has been out for several weeks but was earmarked to return for Germany in Saturday's UEFA Women's EURO 2013 visit of Spain. However, a setback meant that she underwent keyhole surgery on Friday where cartilage damage was diagnosed, meaning a three-month absence. The news will come as a blow to Frankfurt as they take on Arsenal LFC in the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals on 15 and 21 April.
Desirée Schumann, who took Angerer's place in Frankfurt's 3-1 aggregate quarter-final elimination of FC Malmö, has also been called up to the Germany squad, though Almuth Schult is set to start against Spain and in Thursday's Group 2 trip to Switzerland.
