Three-time winners 1. FFC Frankfurt have been given a tough return to European competition after the draws for the UEFA Women's Champions League rounds of 32 and 16.
Frankfurt have not qualified since the rebranding of the former UEFA Women's Cup, which they won more than any other team, and will take on Norway's Stabæk Football in the last 32. If they make it through, Frankfurt could face ambitious Paris Saint-Germain FC provided they get past Irish newcomers Peamount United.
The draw, conducted by UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino along with Karen Espelund, UEFA Executive Committee member by invitation and chairwoman of the UEFA Women's Football Committee, pitted holders Olympique Lyonnais against CFF Olimpia Cluj. Along with Peamount, Olimpia Cluj are one of ten teams to come through last week's qualifying round, and the winners will take on Apollon Limassol LFC or AC Sparta Praha.
The side dethroned as champions by Lyon in last season's final, 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, are up against Thór/KA and could then take on another Icelandic side in the round of 16, should Valur Reykjavík defeat Glasgow City FC.
The other former champions in the draw, Arsenal LFC, meet FC Bobruchanka and may then have a replay of their dramatic victory in last year's round of 16 against Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, who must overcome Finland's PK-35 Vantaa. The round of 16 could match the two Russian entrants if FC Energiya Voronezh beat English debutants Bristol Academy WFC and FC Rossiyanka negotiate FC Twente.
Matches in the round of 32 will be played on 28/29 September and 5/6 October, with the seeded side away in the first leg. The round of 16, for which there was an open draw, takes place on 2/3 and 9/10 November. The quarter-finals and semi-finals are played over two legs in the spring leading to the final in Munich on 17 May.
