Milik hits three as Poland beat Greece

Three more goals from Bayer 04 Leverkusen prospect Arkadiusz Milik saw off Greece as Poland extended their lead at the top of UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 7.

Having hit three against Malta on Friday, Milik put the home side in front from Rafał Janicki's cross on 61 minutes. He pounced on a loose ball to make it 2-0 on 79 minutes and then rifled in a powerful shot deep into added time to seal matters after Nikos Karelis had pulled one back for Greece. The 3-1 win leaves Poland five points clear at the top of the section, though their main challengers Turkey and Greece both have two games in hand.

Milik fired wide after 13 minutes, and visiting goalkeeper Sokratis Dioudis saved at the feet of Piotr Zieliński soon after, with the pressure continuing into the second period when Bartłomiej Pawłowski failed to find the target from three metres. Milik also rattled the bar with a header after opening the scoring, but then tidied up to double the advantage after Dioudis had blocked Mateusz Lewandowski's shot.

Karelis responded with an 85th-minute goal and Greece passed up a gilt-edged chance to equalise when captain Giannis Potouridis missed from the penalty spot, with Milik's ensuing third settling any lingering nerves.
