Spain beat Netherlands to top Group B

Defending champions Spain made it three wins out of three in Israel as they beat the Netherlands 3-0 to secure first place in Group B and set up a semi-final meeting with Norway.

Julen Lopetegui's men had struck late winners in their two previous fixtures but this time they took a grip on the game early at a lively Ha Moshava Stadium, with Álvaro Morata – scoring for the third game running – and Isco putting them two goals in front inside 32 minutes, before Álvaro Vázquez added a late third. For the Netherlands, who featured a completely changed lineup from Sunday's win against Russia, the defeat means they will now face Group A winners Italy in the last four on Saturday.

Spain began with changes too – seven, to be precise, with Morata, the super-sub of the last two games, getting his first start and he continued where he had left off against Germany with the breakthrough goal after 26 minutes. Although Isco's attempted through ball to Morata was stopped by the outstretched leg of Mike van der Hoorn, the Dutchman unwittingly prodded the ball straight to Pablo Sarabia and was then a helpless spectator as Sarabia's low ball across goal was tapped in by Morata, his old team-mate at Real Madrid Castilla.

Van der Hoorn had a chance to make amends when Iñigo Martínez failed to deal with Memphis Depay's deflected free-kick, leaving the centre-back clear in front of David De Gea but the goalkeeper saved. Instead Spain doubled the lead as Iker Muniain threaded a ball through to meet Isco's darting run between the Netherlands centre-backs. The Málaga CF man needed just one touch to set himself up to lift the ball high over Marco Bizot.

Although Vázquez and Asier Illarramendi went close to adding to Spain's lead, it took some excellent goalkeeping from De Gea to maintain their unblemished defensive record in the second period, notably when tipping Depay's dipping 30-metre free-kick on to the crossbar. He also saved well from Adam Maher before Danny Hoesen hit the crossbar on the follow-up. Soon after Spain broke to the other end and grabbed their third goal with Sarabia crossing for Vázquez to tap in. That makes it 24 competitive fixtures unbeaten for the Spanish; over to you, Norway.
