The 2016 UEFA Super Cup will be played at Trondheim's Lerkendal Stadion, the home of Norwegian powerhouse Rosenborg BK.
The decision was made at Thursday's UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Nyon. The game will be the first European club final to be played in Norway, with Trondheim following in the footsteps of Prague (2013), Cardiff (2014) and Tbilisi (2015), the previous cities to be awarded the UEFA Super Cup since the switch from its permanent home of Monaco.
Stadium facts
• The ground was opened in 1947, initially as the home of SK Freidig and FK Kvid, with Rosenborg moving in ten years later.
• Originally a multi-purpose stadium also used for athletics, the track was removed when three new stands were built between 2000 and 2002.
• A regular UEFA Champions League venue during Rosenborg's many campaigns, the 21,600-capacity stadium has also staged several Norway internationals.
• The ground was proposed as a venue for the opening and closing ceremonies during Trondheim's 2018 Winter Olympic bid.
