Goals from Ognjen Vukojević, Andriy Shevchenko and Ayila Yussuf followed by an Oleh Gusev penalty left FC Dynamo Kyiv as clear favourites to reach the UEFA Europa League round of 16 at the expense of Beşiktaş JK.
Beşiktaş showed plenty of willingness going forward but could not match Yuri Semin's side's cutting edge, with three strikes resulting from set pieces doing the main damage for Dynamo. The visitors finished the scoring with a late penalty leaving the Black Eagles, who had goalscorer Ricardo Quaresma sent off in added time, needing a minor miracle in the return fixture in Ukraine.
The match looked set to be tight before kick-off, and Beşiktaş showed menace early on, with Bobô arriving just too late to convert one of Quaresma's fine crosses. The Portuguese winger was an inspiring presence going forward, but Dynamo made the best of a 26th-minute chance, with Shevchenko diverting a corner for Vukojević to head past Hakan Arıkan.
Beşiktaş coach Bernd Schuster kept urging his side forward, and their efforts were rewarded on 37 minutes as Quaresma beat Dynamo goalkeeper Olexandr Shovkovskiy after connecting with Mert Nobre's cross from the right.
Dynamo took the initiative after the restart, and Andriy Yarmolenko had a decent opportunity before Shevchenko headed in from another corner on 50 minutes. Within six minutes, they scored again following a free-kick, withYussuf finishing from the loose ball after Gusev headed against the crossbar.
Beşiktaş kept creating chances, and substitute Hugo Almeida, Quaresma, Bobô and Guti all got into good positions, but they lacked the visitors' killer instinct. Gusev duly made it 4-1 two minutes from the end, registering from the spot after being fouled in the box, and Quaresma's late dismissal added to the home side's gloom.
