Time to adapt
The Under-20 international joins compatriots Jadson, Fernandinho, Ilsinho, Willian and Luiz Adriano at Shakhtar having put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the winners of last season's final UEFA Cup. "I know that my new team are UEFA Cup holders," said Alex, who will turn 20 on 6 January. "Not many clubs are able to win it. I will do my best to help Shakhtar. I hope that adaptating will be easy for me. Some of my compatriots have played here for many years and they will help me to adapt to this new country."
Fulham encounter
A scorer of ten goals in 52 Brazilian league appearances, Alex joins his new side with Shakhtar second in their domestic top flight, two points adrift of FC Dynamo Kyiv. Mircea Lucescu's side also secured a painless path through to the UEFA Europa League round of 32, topping Group J to set up a tie against Fulham FC on 18 and 25 February.
