UEFA Europa League contenders SL Benfica have signed Brazilian goalkeeper Júlio César from Liga rivals CF Os Belenenses for an undisclosed fee.
Five-year contract
The 22-year-old will be re-united with Jorge Jesus, the coach who guided him through the 2007/08 season at Belenenses, having signed a five-year deal with the Eagles. "I am going to give my best to the club," said the custodian, who played 42 times in the Liga for the Blues. "It was the greatness of the club that convinced me. This is a great club and we must look for titles. I will now fight for an opportunity and will try to be a first-team regular." Benfica will enter the UEFA Europa League in the play-offs.
