Heerenveen make double swoop

SC Heerenveen have made a double signing with Norway forward Tarik Elyounoussi joining the UEFA Cup hopefuls a day after the club announced the capture of Ivorian midfielder Bonaventure Kalou from United Arab Emirates side Al-Jazira Club.

Elyounoussi, who is of Moroccan origin, has moved from Fredrikstad FK for an undisclosed fee having agreed a five-year deal with the Dutch side. The 20-year-old played 67 games for the Tippeligaen club registering 19 goals over four seasons and made his Norway debut on 28 May, scoring only four minutes after being introduced against Uruguay.

Title winner
Kalou, 30, who has 12 goals in 51 appearances for his country, is believed to have joined on a free transfer and signed a two-year deal with Heerenveen. The elder brother of Chelsea FC striker Salomon played in the Netherlands for Feyenoord from 1997 until the summer of 2003, winning the 1999 Eredivisie title and the 2002 UEFA Cup.

French spells
Spells at AJ Auxerre, Paris Saint-Germain FC and RC Lens in France followed before he moved to the Abu Dhabi-based side last September. "We have a pretty young attacking line and could use some experience," stated Heerenveen general director Yme Kuiper. "Kalou is a skilful player who can break open a defence. Such a type we can use very well." Trond Sollied's outfit, who lost striker Miralem Sulejmani to AFC Ajax earlier this summer, begin their European campaign in the UEFA Cup first round in September.
