Areias settles at Belenenses

CF Os Belenenses have taken left-back Miguel Areias from Portuguese Liga rivals FC Porto after he became available on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old has signed a permanent contract with the UEFA Cup contenders although the exact length of his contract has not been revealed. Areias first came to prominence during a four-year spell at SC Beira-Mar and moved on to Porto for the 2004/05 campaign. However, first-team opportunities were limited and he moved on to Boavista FC on loan before a similar spell with R. Standard de Liège in Belgium at the start of last season. Areias then moved on again in January, this time to Spanish side RC Celta de Vigo but played just once in the league. After a number of moves in quick succession, Areias will hope to settle back in Portuguese football with his return to Lisbon.
