Consistent performer
Jarque has been one of coach Miguel Ángel Lotina's most consistent performers this season, playing 18 of Espanyol's 20 league games to date as well as six times in the UEFA Cup. With his contract due to expire on 30 June, he has accepted new terms tying him to the Barcelona-based side until June 2009.
Schalke tie
Espanyol qualified for the last 32 of the UEFA Cup by finishing second in Group B. They next face Germany's FC Schalke 04, with the first leg on 15 February and the return eight days later.
