VfL Wolfsburg's continued challenge in the Bundesliga and UEFA Europa League has been boosted by the signing of FIFA World Cup winner André Schürrle from Chelsea FC.
The 24-year-old has penned a contract until summer 2019 with Wolfsburg after a reported €30m fee was agreed with Chelsea. A scorer of 38 goals in 131 Bundesliga games, the German international returns to his homeland after leaving Bayer 04 Leverkusen for west London in the summer of 2013.
A product of 1. FSV Mainz 05, Schürrle joins a Wolves side lying eight points behind FC Bayern München after beating the Bundesliga leaders 4-1 at home on Friday. Their UEFA Europa League round of 32 tie against Sporting Clube de Portugal begins, also in Wolfsburg, on 19 February.
Schürrle's departure paved the way for Juan Cuadrado's arrival at Stamford Bridge, with Mohamed Salah going the other way on loan for the rest of the season.
