FC Internazionale Milano have made their second high-profile signing this week by bringing in Xherdan Shaqiri on loan from FC Bayern München until the end of the season.

The Nerazzurri, who on Monday announced the arrival of Arsenal FC striker Lukas Podolski, will make the deal permanent in the summer. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was scheduled to have a medical on Friday morning. He has reportedly agreed a contract until 2019.

Shaqiri will hope for more regular football with an Inter side sitting 11th in Serie A and through to the UEFA Europa League round of 32, the Swiss international having made just three Bundesliga starts in the first half of the campaign.

After joining from FC Basel 1893, Shaqiri helped the Bavarian club to UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup success in 2012/13, his first season in Germany. A three-time Swiss champion, he won the domestic double last term, plus the FIFA Club World Cup, but featured in only half of Bayern's top-flight fixtures.

Inter will face Celtic FC in the UEFA Europa League's last 32 – on 19 and 26 February.
