Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC parted company with coach Motti Iwanir on Monday night, ending the 47-year-old's tenure just 11 months after he took the reins at his boyhood club.
Iwanir was relieved of his duties a day after his side suffered their fourth league defeat in succession, losing 2-0 to Hapoel Haifa FC. It was Maccabi's sixth defeat of the campaign and left them ninth in the Israeli Premier League table.
The Yellows are bottom of their UEFA Europa League group with just one point from a possible 15 and in all competitions have won only one of their last 13 outings. A club statement read: "In view of the run of recent bad results [owner] Mitch Goldhar has informed coach Iwanir that his contract with the club will be terminated."
Iwanir enjoyed a successful start to the season when leading Maccabi to UEFA Europa League qualification with a play-off win over Panathinaikos FC. He said: "Coaching Maccabi Tel-Aviv was a childhood dream of mine. I enjoyed working at the club and wish it all the best."
