Wobbling Wisła sack coach Maaskant

A derby defeat was Robert Maaskant's last act in charge of Polish champions Wisła Kraków after the club dismissed him following a poor run of results at home and in Europe.

Wisła Kraków have dismissed coach Robert Maaskant after a poor run of form both domestically and in Europe.

The Polish champions have said they will wait until the winter break before announcing a replacement for the 42-year-old Dutchman, who was appointed in August 2010 and led Wisła to the Ekstraklasa title last season. In the meantime, Wisła have confirmed that Kazimierz Moskal, who was Maaskant's assistant, will act as caretaker coach.

Wisła fell just short of reaching the UEFA Champions League group stage, going down 3-2 on aggregate to APOEL FC in the play-offs, and their recent results have taken a turn for the worse. The Krakow outfit have lost three of their four UEFA Europa League games and sit bottom of Group K, while their last two league outings have ended in defeat.

Promoted TS Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala beat them 1-0 in Krakow before they lost by the same scoreline at local rivals MKS Cracovia Kraków on Sunday. It was Wisła's first defeat at Cracovia, who remain bottom of the Ekstraklasa, in 27 years.
