BSC Young Boys defender Emiliano Dudar has been put into an induced coma after suffering a severe head injury during the UEFA Europa League contenders' 2-2 draw against FC Basel 1893 on Sunday.
The 29-year-old was involved in a clash of heads in a challenge and fell awkwardly afterwards. The Swiss Super League match was stopped for eight minutes while the Argentinian was taken off the pitch and moved directly to hospital, where doctors induced him into a coma. His condition is reported to be stable.
"It was a terrible sight," said Basel striker Marco Streller. "I have never experienced anything like this before. There was total silence in the dressing room at half-time. Our thoughts were, and are, with Dudar."
Young Boys sporting director Alain Baumann added: "It doesn't matter if he is out for three weeks or three months; all that matters is that he recovers." Signed from AC Bellinzona in summer 2009, Dudar has played 35 league matches for the Berne side, scoring twice.
