PSV Eindhoven have confirmed the signing of Wilfred Bouma on a two-year contract that marks the Dutch international's return to the club where he began his career.
The 32-year-old defender was a free agent following his exit from Aston Villa FC and had been training with PSV, where he was based before leaving for Villa Park in 2005. Bouma, who made 170 league appearances during his first spell in Eindhoven, told PSV's website: "I always said I wanted to return, and I am glad it is now a fact."
Bouma played 83 Premier League matches for Villa and was an ever-present in the 2007/08 campaign but did not feature again after dislocating his right ankle in a UEFA Intertoto Cup game against Odense BK in July 2008. On his homecoming to PSV, he added: "It is up to the coach to decide when he needs me, but I am eager to prove I'm still a good player. I want to contribute to this team, who are a side with a lot of potential." PSV open their UEFA Europa League campaign at home against UC Sampdoria on 16 September.
