Sporting Clube de Portugal have signed Chilean midfielder Jaime Valdés from Atalanta BC as they prepare to start their UEFA Europa League campaign in the third qualifying round.

Sporting Clube de Portugal have signed Chilean midfielder Jaime Valdés from Serie B side Atalanta BC for a fee in the region of €3m.

The 29-year-old has signed a three-year contract, with the option of more. Capped three times, Valdés has been in Italy since joining AS Bari from his first club CD Palestino in 1999, and represented ACF Fiorentina and US Lecce before joining Bergamo-based Atalanta in 2008. He scored seven goals in 33 league games last season. Sporting finished fourth in the Liga in 2009/10 and start their UEFA Europa League campaign in the third qualifying round.
