Ramos revels in Schalke's misery

Sevilla FC were preparing to party through the night after reaching the UEFA Cup finals but defeat was a crushing disappointment for FC Schalke 04.

An impromptu carnival took place at the Rámon Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium after Antonio Puerta's extra-time goal booked Sevilla FC's place in the UEFA Cup final, but defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for FC Schalke 04 coach Mirko Slomka.

It was 0-0 in both legs in normal time - neither team gave the other one a lot of chances during those matches, so it was clear that one goal would be decisive. It was the same in the [UEFA] Champions League semi-finals - a single goal decided the tie. We reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals, but that’s not worth anything anymore. The same goes for our fourth place in the Bundesliga. We had expected more for this season.
