Espanyol hamstrung by Costa loss

RCD Espanyol midfield player Eduardo Costa could be out until the new year after a scan revealed a tear in his right hamstring.

UEFA Cup blow
The 23-year-old Brazilian sustained the injury in Espanyol's 1-1 draw at Club Atlético de Madrid on Sunday. He limped off after 79 minutes and examinations suggest he faces a minimum of three weeks on the sidelines. The news is a big blow to the Barcelona outfit, who languish in 14th place in the Primera División, and comes just 24 hours before their pivotal UEFA Cup match at Brøndby IF. Espanyol are third in Group B and victory would be enough to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
