Substitute Sébastien Thill enjoyed a dream competitive debut, scoring the added-time winner as Luxembourg swapped places with FYR Macedonia at the foot of UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group C.
The 21-year-old took a touch after Kire Ristevski had headed Stefano Bensi's free-kick out towards him, and promptly steered the ball into the far corner of Tome Pacovski's net to earn his side their first Group C victory. It was a miserable ending for FYR Macedonia, who had done much of the running and failed to convert from the penalty spot with five minutes to go.
Indeed, the visitors kept goalkeeper Jonathan Joubert on his toes throughout, and Leonard Zhuta had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half, with Aurélien Joachim's off-target header the best Luxembourg could muster in response before the break.
Besart Abdurahimi should have scored eight minutes after the restart when the last two defenders collided, leaving him with just Joubert to beat, yet he was only able to side-foot his shot straight at the keeper. Worse was to follow for the Lokeren winger, who stood up to take the spot kick after he was fouled by Chris Philipps just inside the box, only for Joubert to push his effort around his right-hand post.
