Russia have woken up in their home from home for the first time in what they hope will be a month or more. However, their excitement upon arrival has been tempered by the news midfielder Igor Denisov will miss UEFA EURO 2016 with a thigh injury.
The team landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport on Sunday evening, the plane taxiing to a quiet part of the airport to allow the squad to disembark in low-key fashion. They shook hands with various dignitaries – from the Russian Embassy and UEFA – before being whisked away on the team bus.
Although Denisov made the trip with the squad, he has now been ruled out of the tournament with a thigh problem picked up in the 1-1 friendly draw with Serbia on Sunday. While a replacement has yet to be named, Zenit's Artur Yusupov – not part of coach Leonid Slutski's original 23-man party – was spotted by EURO2016.com reporter Richard van Poortvliet at training on Monday.
