Slovakia coach Ján Kozák has included Sampdoria defender Milan Škriniar in his 23-man squad for the nation's first UEFA European Championship finals.
The 21-year-old – who moved to Serie A from Slovan Bratislava in January – only made his senior international debut on Friday, playing the entirety of the 3-1 victory over Georgia in Wels, Austria.
Škriniar has been selected as cover at centre-back and because of his ability to play as a sitting midfielder. Kozák has cut Lukáš Tesák, Erik Sabo, Adam Zreľák and the promising Matúš Bero from his provisional 27-man list.
With Norbert Gyömbér and Tomáš Hubočan having recovered from their respective toe and heel injuries, Kozák said: "My biggest problem was finding another right-back, a position where we haven't got an alternative. However, Gyömbér is fit again and Hubočan's heel looks better, so I said no to Tesák."
