UEFA has announced details of the UEFA EURO 2016 ticket sales process, with the aim of ensuring as many fans as possible can attend the first 24-team UEFA European Championship.
The ticket portal is open for registrations from today, 12 May, until the one-month sales process starts on 10 June. That window then remains open until 10 July, mirroring the dates of next year's final tournament in France.
One million tickets are up for grabs in this initial phase, with €25 tickets available for 43 of the 51 games. The allocation will be independent of the time an application is made. Once the application period is closed, there will be a random selection process to determine successful applicants for all those matches which have been oversubscribed.
"In order to ensure the success of this great festival of European football, we wanted a ticketing policy that was in line with our lofty ambitions for the tournament," said EURO 2016 SAS president Jacques Lambert. "We wanted a ticketing procedure that was user-friendly and transparent, in which everyone – no matter where they were in the world – had the same chances of obtaining tickets via a single portal."
UEFA will also donate 20,000 tickets to deprived children all over France as part of the 20,000 Smiles for the EURO programme. The group stage matches for the French national team have already been scheduled, so Les Bleus supporters can already apply specifically for those fixtures. A range of exciting ticket packages are also available:
Destination tickets: A €290 package will enable fans to get the best view in the house for two games at a particular stadium – ideal for spectators wanting to visit a specific region or residents of the host cities themselves.
Corporate hospitality packages: From the best seats to the finest French cuisine, guests can enjoy first-class hospitality while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere in the very heart of the stadium.
Tickets for disabled spectators: UEFA will make a number of tickets available for disabled fans at every match, in the lowest price category, regardless of their location in the stadium. Disabled fans can also request a complimentary seat for an accompanying person.
Follow my team tickets: After the finals draw in December 2015, supporters of all 24 participating sides will be able to purchase full packages allowing them to follow their team throughout the tournament (including the final, if they make it that far). These sales will be conducted in close cooperation with the 24 participating national associations.
No tickets will be sold at stadiums during the championship itself, though fans will be able to sell on unwanted tickets at face value via the official ticket resale platform in March/April 2016. This will permit fans to buy tickets from other supporters, through UEFA, eradicating the risk of obtaining invalid or fraudulent tickets and ensuring that genuine sellers receive their money.
