Nice appoint 1984 winner Bravo as ambassador

Daniel Bravo, part of France's 1984 UEFA European Championship-winning squad, has been named as an ambassador for UEFA EURO 2016 host city Nice.

Bravo's new role was confirmed on Monday at the Palais des Congrès Acropolis in Nice, where the draw for qualifying took place nearly a year ago. Bravo, also known as 'Le Petit Prince', started his professional career at OGC Nice aged 17 and went on to represent the Eaglets 175 times in three spells (1980–1983, 1987–1989 and 1999–2000).

Now a respected television pundit, Bravo, 52, was capped 13 times by France and was part of the squad that lifted the Henri Delaunay Cup on home soil 31 years ago. His only appearance in the tournament came as a second-half substitute in the 3-2 group stage defeat of Yugoslavia. Bravo described his latest appointment as a "great honour and source of pride".

A fast, aggressive and technical midfielder in his playing days, Bravo has Nice in his heart but also enjoyed plenty of success away from the city. His first move from Nice was to AS Monaco FC, where he won the first of three French Cups. The other two came with Paris Saint-Germain, where he also added the 1996 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Having appeared 465 times in Ligue 1, Bravo spent the 1996/97 season at Parma FC, finishing as a Serie A runner-up.

He joins Alain Giresse and Emmanuelle Grizot (Bordeaux), Wendie Renard and Thierry Frémaux (Lyon), Fabien Barthez (Toulouse), and Jérémie Janot (Saint-Etienne) as UEFA EURO 2016 ambassadors.
