Atlético and Bayern renew rivalry

Club Atlético de Madrid and FC Bayern München meet again in their second Group D game just five months after Atleti overcame the German title holders on away goals in a closely contested UEFA Champions League semi-final.

• It is a contest which also renews the rivalry between Atlético coach Diego Simeone and Carlo Ancelotti who, as Real Madrid CF coach, oversaw the Rojiblancos' defeat in the 2014 UEFA Champions League final.

Previous meetings
• Eventual runners-up Atlético won the first leg of last season's semi-final 1-0 at home through a Saúl Ñíguez goal. Bayern won the return 2-1, Xabi Alonso and Robert Lewandowski scoring either side of Antoine Griezmann on a night when Thomas Müller and Fernando Torres both had penalties saved.

• Atlético were seconds away from winning the first match after a Luis Aragonés goal (114) but Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck's 120th-minute equaliser rescued Bayern, who won the replay 48 hours later through two goals each from Uli Hoeness and Gerd Müller.
