AS Monaco FC host Juventus in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final needing to overturn a 1-0 first-leg loss in which Arturo Vidal scored the only goal from the penalty spot.

• Monaco can take heart from an unbeaten home record against Italian sides at the Stade Louis II, although Juventus will travel with optimism after a resounding 3-0 success at Borussia Dortmund in the last round.

Previous meetings
• Juventus, the eventual tournament runners-up, prevailed 6-4 on aggregate when the teams met in the 1997/98 UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

• In the first leg, Marcello Lippi's Juventus won 4-1 at the Stadio Delle Alpi where Alessandro Del Piero hit a hat-trick (including two penalties) and Zinédine Zidane added a late fourth.

• Jean Tigana's Monaco edged the second leg 3-2, their scorers including Thierry Henry, who joined Juventus for an eight-month spell the following year.

• Monaco are eyeing their first UEFA Champions League semi-final since 2003/04, the season they went all the way to the final for the first and only time.

• Their record at this last-eight stage of the competition is W2 L1. There were no quarter-finals in 1993/94 when they progressed directly from the group stage to the semis.

• This is Monaco's first tie against Italian opposition since their 1998 UEFA Champions League semi-final defeat by Juve.

• Monaco have won just one of six previous knockout ties against clubs from Serie A – a 1-0 aggregate victory over AS Roma in the 1991/92 European Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals.

• Two-time European champions Juventus are seeking a first semi-final appearance since 2002/03, when they beat FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals, following up a 1-1 home draw with a 2-1 away success.

• Since then Juventus have fallen at the quarters on three occasions, most recently when crashing 4-0 on aggregate to FC Bayern München in 2012/13. Their overall record in European Cup quarter-finals stands at W10 L5.

• Massimiliano Allegri's men are chasing a third successive away victory in the competition after wins at Malmö FF (2-0) and Dortmund (3-0).

• Juve triumphed 1-0 at Olympique Lyonnais on their last visit to France in last term's UEFA Europa League quarter-finals. Their overall away record against French opponents is W4 D2 L5.

• Juventus have won all ten of their knockout ties against French teams.

Coach and player links
• Allegri's first game as a coach in UEFA competition was against Ligue 1 opposition – a 2-0 home success against AJ Auxerre with Milan in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League group stage. Milan also won 2-0 in France.

• As a Monaco player from 2002–06, Patrice Evra made 120 league outings and represented the club in the 2003/04 UEFA Champions League final against an FC Porto team including Ricardo Carvalho.

• Carvalho was a late substitute for Chelsea FC in the 2-2 draw at Juventus that sealed the Italian side's elimination from the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League round of 16 (2-3 aggregate). With Porto, Carvalho had previously faced Juve in the 2001/02 first group stage (0-0 h, 1-3 a), lining up against Gianluigi Buffon.

• On Saturday Juventus defeated second-placed SS Lazio 2-0 to close in a fourth successive Serie A title. Carlos Tévez scored his 18th league goal of the season, one fewer than his total for 2013/14, with Leonardo Bonucci scoring his second in three games in all competitions.

• Pirlo's appearance in the home leg against Monaco was his first outing since suffering a calf injury during the 2-1 defeat of Dortmund on 24 February.

• Vidal's spot kick versus Monaco was his first successful penalty of the season in the competition, having had an effort saved by Olympiacos FC's Roberto on matchday five.

• Buffon has kept a clean sheet in each of his last six appearances for Juventus. Marco Storari deputised for the Italy No1 in the 1-0 defeat by Parma FC on 11 April. José Mauri's strike in that game is the only goal the Bianconeri have conceded in their past eight matches.
