Juventus reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the second time in three seasons with a comfortable win at Borussia Dortmund.
Leading 2-1 from the first leg in Turin, the Italian side wasted little time in adding to that advantage, Carlos Tévez giving them a third-minute lead. The scorer set up strike partner Álvaro Morata to effectively end the tie as a contest and claimed the third goal himself in the closing stages,
Massimiliano Allegri had predicted Juventus would need to score and his aim was achieved almost immediately, Tévez collecting possession 25 metres out and drilling a fierce shot that left Roman Weidenfeller grasping at thin air. The goalkeeper then fisted away Stephan Lichtsteiner's effort as Juve again tested his reflexes from range.
Juve's smooth start to the evening was disrupted midway through the opening half when Paul Pogba limped off yet the visitors continued to hold their hosts at arm's length. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon exemplified their composure when he beat Marco Reus to a long ball forward and reacted to being forced out of his penalty area by calmly playing his way out of trouble.
Juventus might have extended their advantage twice in the opening ten minutes of the second period, Morata passing up presentable opportunities to kill off the tie. First, the Spain forward's chip was blocked by Weidenfeller when he was clean through; moments later, the keeper repelled a low effort with his legs.
Buffon then made a comfortable stop from Kevin Kampl, Dortmund's first shot on target of the evening, before Neven Subotić's attempt deflected narrowly wide. The Bianconeri, however, had continued to look menacing on the counterattack, and when Dortmund's offside trap malfunctioned in the 70th minute, they took full advantage. Tévez drew Weidenfeller and unselfishly squared for Morata to tap in and seal the Italian champions' progress.
The crowning goal came with 11 minutes remaining, Arturo Vidal slipping a pass through for Tévez to drill beyond Weidenfeller. Having scored six goals in his first 33 UEFA Champions League appearances, the Juve striker has matched that total in eight games this season, emphasising his team's burgeoning threat.
