Porto v Shakhtar background

The top two teams in Group H, FC Porto and FC Shakhtar Donetsk, come together on matchday six with their qualification assured. Furthermore, the Portuguese side have guaranteed first place having collected 13 points from their first five matches; Shakhtar, on eight, are sure to finish second.

Previous meetings
• Porto won both 2011/12 group stage encounters between the teams, 2-1 at home and 2-0 away.

• Luiz Adriano put Shakhtar ahead in Porto before Hulk, who also missed a penalty, equalised. Kléber scored Porto's decisive second against visitors who had Yaroslav Rakitskiy and Dmytro Chygrynskiy sent off.

• In the return, Hulk (79) and a Răzvan Raţ own goal (90) secured a 2-0 away victory for the Portuguese side. Porto finished third in the group with Shakhtar fourth.

• The clubs' other encounters came in the 1983/84 European Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals. António Morais's Porto battled back from 2-0 down to win their home leg 3-2 before drawing 1-1 with Viktor Nosov's Shakhtar.

• Porto went all the way to the final, losing 2-1 to Juventus in Basel. It was the first time Shakhtar had reached a major European quarter-final – an achievement they did not match until their triumphant 2008/09 UEFA Cup run.

• In the 30 September meeting between the teams, substitute Jackson Martínez struck twice late on to help Porto claim a point. Alex Teixeira and Luiz Adriano had put Shakhtar 2-0 up with five minutes remaining.

• Porto opened with a 6-0 home win against FC BATE Borisov, also winning 3-0 in Belarus last time out. They also beat Athletic Club 2-1 at home and 2-0 away.

• In the 2012/13 group stage Porto beat FC Dynamo Kyiv 3-2 at home, with Martínez scoring twice, and drew 0-0 away. Their record in 11 games against Ukrainian sides is W7 D3 L1; at home it is W4 D0 L1.

• Porto won 2-1 home and away against Dynamo in the 1986/87 European Champion Clubs' Cup semi-final. They beat FC Bayern München in the final to claim their first European Cup.

• Porto beat LOSC Lille 1-0 away in the play-offs and 3-0 overall.

Shakhtar

•The Pitmen have qualified for the knockout rounds for the third time in ten campaigns, all three coming in the past five seasons.

• Shakhtar began with a goalless draw at Athletic and after the Porto draw notched a record-equalling 7-0 win at BATE, following up with a 5-0 home victory, Luiz Adriano scoring eight goals over those two games. On matchday five Shakhtar were undone by Mikel San José's goal for Athletic in Lviv.

• Aside from their Porto games, Shakhtar have won four of their eight matches against Portuguese opponents.

• Shakhtar's best performance in the European Cup came in 2010/11 when they reached the quarter-finals.

• Mircea Lucescu's record in eight games against Portuguese opponents with Shakhtar is W3 D1 L4 (W2 D0 L1 away). His Romania team lost 1-0 to Portugal at the 1984 UEFA European Championship, and then won 3-2 in a Lisbon friendly the following year.
