Porto looking to pass another Dynamo test

Victory against FC Dynamo Kyiv last time out kept FC Porto three points clear at the top of UEFA Champions League Group A and the Portuguese champions will now be looking to repeat their 2008 win in Kyiv to consolidate their position.

• Jackson Martínez's double, including the 78th-minute winner, paved the way for a 3-2 win that preserved Porto's 100% start to the section after wins at GNK Dinamo Zagreb (2-0) and at home to Paris Saint-Germain FC (1-0).

• Dynamo had beaten Dinamo 2-0 at home on matchday two in what was Oleh Blokhin's first UEFA Champions League match as a coach, after starting with a 4-1 loss away to PSG.

Previous meetings
• The teams were drawn together in the 2008/09 group stage with each winning away. Dynamo were 1-0 victors in Portugal thanks to a 27th-minute Oleksandr Aliyev goal, and took the lead in the return fixture in Kyiv through Artem Milevskiy (21) only for second-half strikes from Rolando (69) and Lucho González (90+2) to turn the match around.

• Porto won 2-1 home and away against Dynamo in the 1986/87 European Champion Clubs' Cup semi-final with Blokhin in the starting lineup for both games. At the Estádio das Antas, Porto's former home, Paulo Futre and António André scored for the home team with Pavel Yakovenko replying, but by the tenth minute of the return in Kyiv, Porto led 2-0 after goals from Celso and Luís Eduardo. Oleksiy Mykhailychenko quickly pulled one back but Porto advanced and beat FC Bayern München in the Vienna final to claim their first European Cup.

• Dynamo bowed out to Portuguese opposition in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, losing on away goals to SC Braga after drawing 1-1 at home and 0-0 away. They have played 13 games against Portuguese sides with the record W3 D2 L8 (W2 D1 L3 in Ukraine).

• Porto met FC Shakhtar Donetsk in last season's group stage, winning 2-1 at home and 2-0 away. Their record in nine games against Ukrainian sides is W7 D1 L1 (W3 D1 L0 away).

Match background
• Dynamo, runners-up in last season's Ukrainian Premier League, are involved in their 14th UEFA Champions League campaign. They were last at this stage in 2009/10 when, in their home games, they beat FC Rubin Kazan 3-1 but lost 2-1 to both FC Internazionale Milano and FC Barcelona, finishing fourth in the group.

• This time Dynamo came through two qualifying rounds, winning their first three fixtures. They overcame Feyenoord 2-1 at home and 1-0 away in the third qualifying round, then won 3-1 at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in the play-off first leg, going through despite a 2-1 home defeat.

• Porto missed out on the knockout stages in 2011/12 although just one more goal would have taken them through; instead the 0-0 home draw with FC Zenit St Petersburg on matchday six consigned them to third place in Group G, a point behind APOEL FC and Zenit.

• Porto, in the group stage for the 17th time, lost their first two away games last season before the win at Shakhtar.

• Miguel Veloso is an international team-mate of João Moutinho, Rolando, Silvestre Varela and Miguel Lopes for Portugal.

• Veloso and Moutinho came through the ranks at Sporting Clube de Portugal together and were team-mates in the senior side for several seasons, winning two Portuguese Cups together.

• Veloso was also a team-mate of Silvestre Varela at Sporting from 2005 to 2008 but for most of the time Varela was on loan elsewhere.

• Marco Ruben, Lucho and Nicolás Otamendi are international team-mates with Argentina.

• Maicon and Dudu played together for the Cruzeiro EC youth teams between 2003 and 2007. Kléber and Leandro Almeida were team-mates at CA Mineiro in 2009.
