KS Skënderbeu gained their first European victory at the third attempt, defeating Debreceni VSC in their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round opener courtesy of Sebino Plaku's goal.
Beaten at this stage of the competition 12 months ago by APOEL FC in what was the Albanian club's maiden continental campaign, Skënderbeu have a good chance of at least progressing a stage further thanks to Plaku, the outstanding player on the night. The sides meet again in Hungary in a week's time.
