Swiss titleholders FC Zürich have dropped midfielders Almen Abdi and Andrés Vasquez from their first-team squad until further notice.

Future in doubt
Zürich released a short statement on Tuesday saying that the club were "planning for the future without these two players". Abdi, a 23-year-old Swiss international, was FCZ's 19-goal top scorer in the league last season, yet has started only five Super League games this term. Although the promising playmaker scored the side's winning goal against FK Ventspils in their UEFA Champions League play-off second leg, he has since made just two substitute appearances in the group stage.

Lowly positions
Swedish midfielder Vasquez, 22, has featured only three times all campaign, from the bench in the Swiss championship. Zürich are struggling in Group C, with a memorable 1-0 victory at AC Milan on Matchday 2 being overshadowed by three defeats at a cost of 12 goals. Bernard Challandes' men are also foundering domestically, sitting eighth in the ten-team table.
