The veteran Valencia CF defender Amedeo Carboni has signed a one-year contract extension with the Spanish champions.

Popular player
The former Italian international, who turns 38 in April, has been one of Valencia's most popular players since his arrival at the club in 1997. His career began with hometown club, Arezzo AC, back in 1984. He then had a season each with AS Bari, Empoli FC and Parma AC before switching to Sampdoria UC in 1988.

First-team regular
Carboni enjoyed two years as a first-team regular at the Luigi Ferraris stadium, as the Genoese club lifted the Coppa Italia in 1989 and UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1990. Soon he was on the move again, to AS Roma where he would spend seven seasons before transferring to Spain.

Attacking full-back
An attacking full-back noted for his surging runs along the left, Carboni has made nine appearances in the UEFA Champions League so far this season. Valencia face Internazionale FC in the quarter-finals on 9 and 22 April.
