Juventus v Real Madrid

More Ronaldo records?

  • Cristiano Ronaldo has a formidable quarter-final record: 18 games, 20 goals. That is as many quarter-final goals as the next two best players combined! One is Lionel Messi, who has ten goals from 18 games.
  • Nobody other than Ronaldo has scored more than his current 12 goals at this stage of a UEFA Champions League season (in 2013/14 and 2015/16 he had 13). The full season record is 17, set in 2013/14 by, you guessed it, Ronaldo.
  • The Madrid forward has also found the net in his last nine UEFA Champions League games, equalling Ruud van Nistelrooy's record. Another goal in Turin would take him out in front as the first to register in ten straight matches at this level.
  • Ronaldo is two appearances away from 150 in the UEFA Champions League: he would be the third player to reach that mark after Iker Casillas (167) and Xavi Hernández (151).

Real Madrid untouchable

Win No148 for Madrid
  • Real Madrid are two wins away from 150 in the UEFA Champions League. Next best: Barcelona (137), Bayern (127).
  • Real Madrid have won a record 12 UEFA Champions League quarter-final ties, one more than Barcelona.
  • Real Madrid have won their last seven quarter-final ties, a European Cup record. Barcelona managed six in a row between 2008 and 2013.
  • Real Madrid won their 28th European Cup quarter-final tie last season, ten more than anyone else (Bayern have 18 such victories).
  • Real Madrid are playing their 35th European Cup quarter-final tie and the first leg will be their 70th last-eight fixture – there was a replay in their 1961/62 tie with Juventus! No other team is above 30 ties or 60 matches.

Barcelona v Roma

  • If Andrés Iniesta plays, it will be his 21st UEFA Champions League quarter-final appearance, matching the record of Ryan Giggs and Xavi. If he plays in both legs, he equals Paco Gento's long-standing record of 22 European Cup quarter-final outings.

Sevilla v Bayern

Bayern's attacking goals

  • Robert Lewandowski needs one goal to move alongside Filippo Inzaghi in ninth place on the list of the UEFA Champions League's all-time top scorers on 46.
  • Bayern are top scorers in UEFA Champions League knockout matches with 161 goals (from 85 games). Second-placed Madrid are on 156 (90).
  • This is a record 17th UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie for Bayern, one more than Real Madrid and Barcelona.
  • Bayern are five goals away from becoming only the second club to score 100 in European Cup quarter-finals (after Madrid on 134).

Sevilla's long wait

Sevilla end six-decade wait
  • Sevilla are the 51st different club to play in the quarter-finals in the UEFA Champions League era.
  • Sevilla are the eighth Spanish team to feature in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, equalling England's record.
  • The 60-year gap between Sevilla's two European Cup quarter-final appearances is a record (the previous best was 49 for Tottenham Hotspur from 1961/62 to 2010/11 and Schalke from 1958/59 to 2007/08).
  • Sevilla hope to become the 29th club to play in a UEFA Champions League semi-final (there were no semi-finals in 1992/93). They would be the seventh Spanish semi-finalists, taking them one clear of England.
  • Sevilla aim to be the 74th different team to play in a European Cup semi-final. They would be the eighth different Spanish semi-finalist; England have had ten.

Liverpool v Manchester City

  • Only two players have managed more than James Milner's current haul of seven assists in one UEFA Champions League season over the past decade: Neymar (2016/17) and Wayne Rooney (2013/14) produced eight.
  • Liverpool v Manchester City is the 11th one-nation quarter-final in the UEFA Champions League era, and the fifth involving two English sides. The previous three were Spanish, all featuring Atlético Madrid, and there have also been one each for France, Italy and Germany.
  • Liverpool are equalling Atlético and Chelsea's record of playing in three one-nation UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, and could match both clubs' shared record of winning two.
  • None of the previous ten teams to win a one-nation quarter-final in the UEFA Champions League have gone on to lift the trophy.

Note: there was no knockout quarter-final round in 1991/92, 1992/93 or 1993/94. There was no knockout semi-final round in 1991/92 or 1992/93. The eight-team group stages of those seasons are not counted in these statistics.
