FC Shakhtar Donetsk forward Luiz Adriano has equalled the record for most goals in a single UEFA Champions League group stage.
The 27-year-old, who did not score against Athletic Club on matchday one and was also suspended on matchday six, scored nine goals in Group H. That takes the Brazilian international level with the record set by Real Madrid CF forward Cristiano Ronaldo last season.
Luiz Adriano opened his 2014/15 UEFA Champions League account against FC Porto on matchday two, but it was in the subsequent double-header against FC BATE Borisov that he really made hay, netting five times in Borisov before adding three more in the home return. The former SC Internacional striker had scored just 11 UEFA Champions League goals in all prior to the current campaign.
