Club Atlético de Madrid's summer transfer activity continues apace with Granada CF's Brazilian full-back Guilherme Siqueira set to become the Spanish champions' latest recruit in a reported €10m move.
Loaned to SL Benfica in 2013/14, the 28-year-old Siqueira – who has agreed a four-year contract with the Rojiblancos, subject to passing a medical – recently shared in the Eagles' domestic treble-winning triumph of Portuguese Liga, Cup and League Cup. The left-sided defender was also a starter in Jorge Jesus's UEFA Europa League side that suffered final defeat against Sevilla FC in Turin last month.
"This is a dream come true, I'm really happy," Siqueira said. "Every player wants to play for a great team and I will now have the opportunity to become part of the Atlético family. I'm eager to show what I can do having joined the Liga champions."
Initially arriving in Europe with FC Internazionale Milano, Siqueira went on to play for Udinese Calcio and AC Ancona. On loan with Granada during their successful promotion push of 2010/11, he then made the transfer to southern Spain permanent, proceeding to register 12 goals in 100 league games before departing for Benfica.
Atlético sporting director José Luis Caminero said: "This signing will increase competition for places, which is what we always look for in players that come here. Siqueira is very good from dead-ball situations, can take penalties and is good going forward. He has great defensive ability and positional sense."
The UEFA Champions League runners-up – who recently announced the signatures of goalkeeper Miguel Ángel Moyá and attacker Ángel Correa – will begin their 2014/15 UEFA Champions League challenge in the group stage.
