Bayern stay on course for second straight treble

FC Bayern München remain on course for a second successive treble following a 5-1 victory against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the German Cup semi-finals.

Bayern, who have already retained the Bundesliga title and are up against Real Madrid CF in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, will take on perennial rivals Borussia Dortmund in the 17 May showpiece at Berlin's Olympiastadion. Josep Guardiola's side had won just one of their previous five fixtures in all competitions prior to Wednesday, but had little problem seeing off second-tier Kaiserslautern. Indeed they went in front after 24 minutes when Bastian Schweinsteiger headed in an Arjen Robben corner.

The Bavarian outfit doubled their lead just eight minutes later, Robben again the provider. The Netherlands forward cut in from the right and pulled the ball back for Toni Kroos, who finished consummately. Thomas Müller's second-half penalty – Robben the man brought down inside the area – looked to be the end of matters, but Simon Zoller soon pulled one back for the visitors.

However, late goals from Mario Mandžukić and Mario Götze – the latter teed up by a brilliant Franck Ribéry back-heel – set the seal on a comfortable evening for the European champions.
