Galatasaray AŞ have parted company with Fatih Terim after the coach did not accept a contract extension at the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi.
The 60-year-old, who has also been in charge of the Turkish national team since August, was relieved of his club duties after overseeing just one league win in four outings in the new season, plus a 6-1 home loss in the UEFA Champions League to Real Madrid CF.
"After Fatih Terim's rejection of our two-year contract offer, the Galatasaray board have been obligated to find new solutions," a club statement, signed by the board of directors, read. "We thank Fatih Terim for his contributions and we would like everyone to know that we will be proud of his future achievements with Turkish national team." No successor has yet been named.
The announcement brings to an end Terim's third spell as Cimbom coach, in which he won the Turkish Super League and Turkish Super Cup at both times of asking, as well as taking the side to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season. In total, the former ACF Fiorentina and AC Milan coach has won six league titles with the Istanbul giants as well as the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup.
