AC Milan have signed Slovenia midfielder Valter Birsa from Genoa CFC in a deal which saw full-back Luca Antonini moving in the opposite direction.
With Kevin-Prince Boateng having departed for FC Schalke 04, Massimiliano Allegri's squad required reinforcements in attacking midfield and Milan have moved quickly to fill the void. Capped 61 times for Slovenia, the 27-year-old Birsa has signed a three-year contract with the Rossoneri, keeping him at San Siro until June 2016.
Birsa joined Genoa from AJ Auxerre in 2011 but after appearing only nine times during his first Serie A campaign, he spent last season at Torino FC where he found the net twice in 17 games. Meanwhile, Antonini, 31, has left Milan after 81 Serie A outings for the club since joining from Empoli FC in 2008. The Rossoneri will face Celtic FC, FC Barcelona and AFC Ajax in UEFA Champions League Group H.
