A goal on his UEFA Champions League debut was some consolation for Gianni Bruno though a 2-0 win in Minsk was not enough to save LOSC Lille's European season. FC BATE Borisov will forge on to the UEFA Europa League following a 1-1 draw between Valencia CF and FC Bayern München in the late Group F game, with Vitali Rodionov and Renan Bressan appalled at the Belarusian champions' wastefulness in front of goal.
Gianni Bruno, LOSC forward
Of course our ultimate target was to win by a three-goal margin; 3-0 maybe, but we could have beaten them 5-2 and stayed in contention for a UEFA Europa League place. It obviously got harder after Djibril Sidibé was sent off, but we still managed to regroup and contain our opponents. I even think BATE had more chances before the break, though it was us who scored twice.
It was the mirror image of our first meeting in Lille. We attacked more then and BATE won 3-1. As for me personally, I am happy of course – I scored an important goal on my European debut, but I would not have been able to shine if our whole team had not had a great game.
Vitali Rodionov, BATE forward
We have struggled going forward in three consecutive matches. I see this as a main reason behind our defeat. We conceded two quick goals and I think we can understand how LOSC felt during our first meeting when we were three goals ahead at half-time.
However, we had our opportunities before their first goal and after that too. We had chances to make a comeback. It is hard to say now what stopped me from converting my opportunities. I do not think I am tired. I had a golden chance in the first half – you can't be tired that early in the game.
Renan Bressan, BATE midfielder
We did not have as many goalscoring chances as this in any of our previous games in the Champions League and we have still not managed to convert any of them. It is very disappointing. Probably, we lack a bit of quality. However, you can say whatever you want – it doesn't matter now.
