French champions Montpellier Hérault SC have moved to fill the void left by Olivier Giroud's departure to Arsenal FC with the signing of Argentinian forward Emanuel Herrera from Chilean side Club Unión Española for an undisclosed fee.
Herrera has signed a three-year contract and will wear the No11 shirt. He has an impressive record in Chile, having scored ten goals in 17 appearances for Unión Española last term and 27 in 35 outings for CD Concepción in the 2011 season. "He is a player who has a similar style to Gonzalo Higuaín," said coach René Girard.
The 25-year-old is one of a number of additions to the Montpellier squad as they prepare to enter the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time. Forward Gaëtan Charbonnier has joined Les Pailladins from Ligue 2 side Angers SCO, 24-year-old midfielder Anthony Mounier has signed on a four-year deal from OGC Nice and defender Daniel Congré, 27, has moved from Toulouse FC.
The UEFA Champions League debutants will learn their group stage opponents in the draw on 30 August in Monaco.
