SSC Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has announced that midfielder Marek Hamšík has signed a one-year contract extension with the UEFA Champions League contenders that will keep him at the Italian club until June 2016.
The 24-year-old former ŠK Slovan Bratislava player joined the Partenopei from Brescia Calcio in 2007 and has since scored 47 goals in 168 league games, forming part of a dynamic midfield which has been crucial in Napoli's run to the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
"My dream is to win trophies with Napoli," said Slovak international Hamšík, who played 82 minutes of Napoli's 3-1 first-leg victory against Chelsea FC. "We are still very busy on all fronts and we are approaching a crucial Champions League game in London. We are also in the Coppa Italia semi-finals so it would be great to give a trophy to our brilliant fans." Napoli travel to England for the Chelsea return fixture on Wednesday
"Hamšík is a very polite person," said De Laurentiis. "Even when he was only 20, he was acting like a 30-year-old. He has a great family and has shown his commitment to our cause by signing a contract until 2016."
