Brazilian central midfielder Fernandinho has agreed a new five-year contract at UEFA Champions League contenders FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
The 26-year-old's existing deal was due to expire this month but he has now renewed his terms, committing to the Ukrainian champions until July 2016. Fernandinho joined Shakhtar from CA Paranaense in 2005 and has since won four league titles and two Ukrainian Cups as well as the 2009 UEFA Cup.
His appearances in the Pitmen's first three matches of the new season have taken his total to 139 league games for his club, during which he has scored 25 times. The 2007/08 Ukrainian Premier League player of the season will likely be a regular when Shakhtar enter the UEFA Champions League group stage.
