FC Internazionale Milano's bid to establish an outright lead in Group A of the UEFA Champions League has been undermined by injuries to Diego Milito and Esteban Cambiasso.
The Argentinian international duo will miss the home game against Tottenham Hotspur FC on 20 October after both suffered thigh strains during their country's 1-0 friendly defeat in Japan on Friday.
Internazionale lead Group A on goal difference from second-placed Tottenham, but will definitely be without Milito and Cambiasso when the London outfit visit Milan in nine days' time and possibly also for the return fixture at White Hart Lane on 2 November.
Midfielder Cambiasso, 30, faces two to three weeks on the sidelines according to Inter, while 31-year-old forward Milito could be laid off for a month. The Italian titleholders confirmed each diagnosis today after scans on the pair. Inter and Tottenham have four points apiece from two group matches, with FC Twente and SV Werder Bremen lagging behind on one.
Both players should be up and running for Matchday 5, on 24 November, when the Nerazzurri host Twente.
