FC Barcelona midfielder Jeffrén will remain at the club until 30 June 2012 after he agreed terms on a two-year contract extension with the UEFA Champions League holders.

The former Spanish Under-21 international joined Barça's youth ranks in 2005 and has since developed into a fringe player with Josep Guardiola's first-team squad, making three Liga appearances this season. With his previous deal due to expire at the end of the current campaign, the Venezuelan-born Jeffrén, 22, said he was keen to "achieve great things" shortly after putting pen to paper on a new contract that contains a €10m release clause. "It's one of the happiest days I've had since my arrival at the club," he added. Barcelona face VfB Stuttgart in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round on 23 February and 17 March.
