Article body
Limited opportunities
Tomic returns for a second loan spell at the Primera División club after a frustrating campaign in the Italian capital. The 27-year-old made only three Serie A appearances for Fabio Capello's side and featured once in the UEFA Champions League.
Emergency signing
Alavés coach José María Esnal 'Mané' has signed the Belgrade-born player to fill the gap left by injuries to midfielders Hermes Aldo Desio, Martín Astudillo and Pablo Gómez. Tomic played 28 times for Alavés during a successful first term at the Mendizorroza stadium in 2000/01, when the Vitoria-based team reached the final of the UEFA Cup.
Squad system
Tomic moved to Roma from his hometown club, FK Partizan, in 1998 but has never been more than a squad player at the Olimpico stadium.
